This was such an enjoyable read! I also have deep a jealousy of your journal entries! So much beautiful artwork and musing throughout the pages. I’ve always been so envious of any writers notebook that’s filled with such beautiful drawings. Such a treat to for us to peak inside yours!
So kind! Lots of pages are just regular old writing, but I do find organizing it in an interesting way visually helps me remember things and kind of cements them in! So glad you enjoyed this one, Alix :)
I’ve come to know the fertile space of the in between in my own experience so deeply. I love this idea of the edge effect. Thank you for all this insight!
Ecotones seems to be a good description of where I reside in life at the moment. The closing of ENC, teaching in MHEd program dried up suddenly, and contemplating what's next while providing support to my spouse's career, all while treading through the sludge of aging (gracefully) and the woes of being that pre-retirement age. Thanks for sharing your insights and introducing this book. Happy New Year!
Vern, you are experiencing a lot of layers of change my friend. Many in-betweens at once is tricky to navigate and I imagine brings waves of different emotions consistently lapping at the shores. I am finding a lot of good wisdom in this book, and just spending time outside in general to be helpful. Hard when the wind is whipping and the temps are so cold, but spring is on the horizon. Happy New Year & thanks for reading 🤍
I agree! So much richness in those pages. I am so interested in how the learnings are landing for others and will check out your post. Thanks for reading :)
I love this on first reading-plan to re read it tonight. I have found the middle-often uncomfortable, unpredictable, and shifty- to be my most profound growing moments. I look forward to reading this through again. Thank you.
Would love to hear more about your middle experiences, Charlene. Life is so full of them and it can be really helpful to learn from others. Thanks for reading 🫶🏻
It was a great essay. Thank you. I feel that the middle is so unsure. It’s airy, not grounded. It’s full of possibilities and fears and curiousness and what ifs. The unsettled feeling of waiting. One toe in the water. And then all of a sudden (sometimes a long sudden, let’s be honest!) you’re on the other side of whatever you had to cross, lesson you had to experience or process that had to unfold so that you could continue your “Becoming”.
I plan to feature you in my newsletter on Friday. I’ve been reading through your work and I very much love it. Thank you for putting your thoughts and yourself out into a world that couldn’t need it more🫶🏼
I think I am in the middle of a “long-sudden” as you call it haha! Oof the middles can feel really tricky to navigate. Thank you for sharing so beautifully your experience - the toe in the water 🌊. And thank you so much for reading and sharing! What a lovely honor to have others find hope and curiosity in your words 🤍
This is so unbelievably beautiful Victoria, thank you. I have just devoured your reflections on Weathering, and insights you have offered, and it feels magical to me that you have given the first few chapters this level of attention. It is a huge gift to me thank you! Wow xx
Thank you so much for reading, Ruth. And I am so glad these reflections feel like a reader’s gift back to you as the author! So much magic in this book.
Wow that sounds like such a fun hour, Luisa! Maybe another quizzing on the horizon when her third book comes out?! Really loving the treasure trove of writers on Substack 🤍
Oh I might have to get this book now! I’m weathering my own little health crisis and it’s kicking up a lot of dirt.
Thank you for sharing!
Miranda, sounds like you might find some wisdom and peace in these pages too my friend! Sending peace as you navigate your seas 🤍

“Fertile space” is a beautiful way to describe it, Kaitlyn! I’m glad it gave language to something you’ve experienced :)
